Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Francisco Rodriguez and Alex Avila celebrate a 4-1 victory over the Cleveland Indians in a baseball game Sunday

Carlos Carrasco pitched well in Sunday's loss to the Tigers, allowing two runs on four hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Saturday's pitching matchup will feature Detroit's Justin Verlander and Cleveland's Corey Kluber, who have combined for 232 career wins and two Cy Young Awards.

"We were due to swing it a little, but I'm not sure it would come against Verlander". That said, I like Carrasco here and think he'll pitch well.

At the plate, Detroit has been pretty well-rounded this year.

"He's a very good offensive player", Ausmus said.

En route to winning their first AL Central title since 2007 with a 94-67 record, the Indians prevailed in the first 11 games against Detroit and won 14 of 18 overall.

Perez checked with home-plate umpire Clint Fagan, who maintained that if Bauer hit a batter, he would be ejected. He got Austin Jackson to fly out with two on in the second, struck out Edwin Encarnacion, on three pitches, with two on in the third and got timely double-play balls in the fourth and fifth.

Ramirez had a career-high six RBIs with home runs in the first off Verlander (1-1) and in the eighth against Anibal Sanchez.

Bauer allowed six runs in five-plus innings for the Indians, whose starting pitchers are 1-6 with an AL-worst 6.58 ERA. Both pitchers are now 1-1. "And he's like, 'Man, I've got to be tipping.' Well, then they spend time thinking about that, as opposed to executing pitches". All of a sudden, the Tigers' lead was down to 7-6.

"Our guys did a nice job of fighting back from being down 7-0, but we couldn't get over the hump", Ausmus said.

Justin Verlander has had rough games against the Indians. He gave up a three-run homer to right-center to Jose Ramirez in the first inning, a two-run shot to right-center by Carlos Santana in the second and a two-run home run to right by Lonnie Chisenhall in the third. Boyd used his slider to induce a pair of double plays which really helped his cause. "They're good, the ball's flying, but I thought the late movement, especially on his breaking ball, was really good".

And the Tigers left town with a 4-1 win and their first series triumph over the Indians at Progressive Field since June 2015. "I don't really know that I've ever seen warnings been issued when no one's been hit, no one's been thrown at, but it's what they chose to do".

Mariners 5, Rangers 0: James Paxton extended his season-opening scoreless streak to 21 innings, Taylor Motter hit a three-run homer and Seattle beat visiting Texas.

"It's tough to say not to dwell on this, but I've been around long enough to know you can't go getting all depressed over one start", Verlander said.

NOTES: The Tigers have optioned RHP William Cuevas to Triple-A Toledo and recalled RHP Warwick Saupold from Toledo.

Santana had three hits of Cleveland's 19 hits and four RBIs, including a two-run homer in the second. They didn't lose more than three straight games a year ago.

When you finish a night 3-for-5 with runners in scoring position following a stretch over a week where you were 2-of-36, you have to roll something over into the next game, especially when it finished with a pinch hit grand slam.

When Trevor Bauer's first pitch to Miggy sailed high, and not terribly far inside, Cabrera began jawing towards the Indians' dugout and manager Terry Francona.
