Cosby's accuser denies they were romantically involved

The defense tried to hammer away at inconsistencies in statements she made to law-enforcement, particularly a discrepancy over the date of the alleged assault.

Constand disagreed with the attorney's suggestion that they were in bed together. She initially told officers she had never been alone with Cosby before the incident and that she had largely cut off contact with him afterward, neither of which was true.

Constand, a 44-year-old Canadian, was at the time director of basketball operations at Temple University, where Cosby served on the Board of Trustees at the time of the alleged assault in January 2004. "She's always said it was digital penetration", Constand lawyer Dolores Troiani told The Associated Press when Constand finished her testimony Wednesday afternoon.

"No, I was reclining with my elbow, with my feet off the bed", Constand replied.

Cosby says that he gave Ms Constand the antihistamine Benadryl only to relieve stress, insisting that their sexual relations were consensual and accusing her of lying.

The revelation came as Constand ended her testimony in the case.

Cosby, 79, is on trial for allegedly drugging and sexually assaulting Constand at his Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, mansion in January 2004.

Agrusa next asked about phone records that show Constand made a series of phone calls on March 16, proving she could not have been assaulted that day.

According to Gianni, Cosby then requested she put Andrea on the phone, and all three of them stayed on the call as he said, "Andrea, let's tell your mother what happened".

"I don't know what that means", Ms Constand said.

Smiling, dressed in a pale blue jacket and a white top, she answered initial questions from Assistant District Attorney Kristen Feden calmly but her demeanor changed when the testimony switched to the alleged assault.

Bill Cosby's chief accuser says she shot down the actor's casual advances twice before she found herself paralyzed and unable to fight him off the night she took pills he said were herbal supplements.

"Obviously I placed the call", Constand said.

At one point, Agrusa asked Constand how she could not have possibly known that Cosby was interested in her either romantically or sexually, and listed gifts he gave her, ranging from cashmere sweaters and perfume to incense and bath salts, as well as a $225 hair dryer.

Defence lawyer Angela Agrusa zeroed in on statements Ms Constand gave to police in early 2005.

To counter the defense questions, prosecutors will present Ms. Constand's mother, a drug expert. "She thought of him as a mentor, a father", she said, attempting to keep her composure.

Constand's mother testified later in the day, bolstering her daughter's account. "As it went on - and it was very very frequent - she would scream in her sleep or she would wake up in a sweat".

The defense also quizzed her phone records that showed 72 calls between her and Cosby between the alleged assault and when she reported it to police. Once she was "frozen", Cosby assaulted her with his fingers and groped her breasts, she said.

"He said, 'I feel bad telling you this, I sound like a perverted person, I sound like a pervert, '" Gianna said. Cosby permanently scarred the lives of dozens of women, it looks like, and he deserves to spend the rest of his life in jail...and if there is an after life, he should be locked up there, too. She will return to the witness stand Wednesday.

Asked by the prosecution why she waited to report the incident, Constand replied that she did so due to his status as a trustee, an alumnus and a benefactor of athletics programs.
