Roger Federer versus Andy Murray gets Lleyton Hewitt excited

Wimbledon: American Sam Querrey shocks No. 1 Andy Murray in quarterfinals

Roger Federer says it is refreshing to see new faces in the last four at Wimbledon following a string of big name exits.

"The first couple of rounds he played some good tennis but not his best, and then everyone saw it as a massive challenge against Grigor Dimitrov who plays well on grass, and he just went to another level and that's what he's able to do".

He did, though, acknowledge the scale of the task he faced.

Of Federer's three remaining opponents, only Cilic has tasted Grand Slam glory before, winning the US Open in 2014 after defeating Federer in the semi-finals.

"I think he's the greatest of them all. And that's so hard against a player like him", Nadal told reporters. He went on to beat Djokovic in the semi-finals before going down in straight sets to Rafael Nadal in the final.

"Always the end of Grand Slams is a unusual feeling because in the first week, it's such a big buzz around the players' areas, so busy, but by the semifinals and finals there's very few people around". "I mean, if someone feels bad about it, it's me".

Whether or not he wins his eighth Wimbledon title, it's already been a fantastic year for Federer.

If he sees off Berdych, the 11th seed and 2010 runner-up to Nadal, on Friday, Federer will face either Croatian seventh seed Marin Cilic or Murray's conqueror, American Sam Querrery, in Sunday's title decider.

"It's unfortunate that I had to finish Wimbledon, a grand slam, this way". In matches, I couldn't play freely. I know I have it in me that I can win.

From the baseline, I felt like I had the upper hand, which wasn't necessarily the case last year, which helped me to stay more calm', said Federer comparing this match to the one lost against Raonic last year. I'm rested. I'm fresh. It's a matter of a few points here and there that can make a huge difference.

"I tried", he said.

"It's not that different", Hewitt said.

Raonic beat Federer in the semifinals a year ago, and then lost to Andy Murray in the final.

"There was an opportunity there, so I'm sad that it's over." said Murray, who was very sad at the press conference.

"I'm just very happy that I'm still doing so well". Then I just ran into Novak, who was red hot.

American Sam Querrey sent another world number one out of the Wimbledon as he upset Andy Murray in an epic five-setter 3-6, 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-1.

Cilic believes 24th-seeded Querrey's lack of experience on the biggest stage could have a slight impact. In the other women's semifinal match, Garbine Muguruza will play either CoCo Vandeweghe or Magdalena Rybarikova.

"I have no idea of exactly what that's going to be".
