Wilson's escape act helps Seahawks top 49ers 12-9

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson passes under pressure from San Francisco 49ers outside linebacker Eli Harold in the first half of an NFL football game Sunday Sept. 17 2017 in Seattle

But the 49ers went three-and-out and the Seahawks controlled the clock to salt away the victory. Rookie RB Chris Carson carried five times in a row for 41 yards before it was kneel-down time.

San Francisco took the lead on a 34-yard field goal with 11:36 left in the fourth quarter after a 54-yard drive all on carries by Hyde and Matt Breida. The Seattle Seahawks are back in the friendly confines of CenturyLink Field today for week 2 of the National Football League regular season. Hyde has now done it in back-to-back appearances.

Carlos Hyde's moves When Carlos Hyde burst through the Seahawks defense in the second quarter, he showed faster speed than ever in his four-year career.

Hunt, who is not related to starting running back Kareem Hunt, spent the past two seasons with the Texans. Hyde became the first runner to rush for 100 yards or more in back-to-back games at Seattle since 2014. Russell Wilson is completing 51.9 percent of his passes for 158 yards, zero touchdowns and zero interceptions. Dontae Johnson drew a 20-yard, pass-interference penalty to advance the Seahawks to the 49ers' 12-yard line. Prosise had a potential TD bounce off his hands at the goal line on Seattle's first drive, and Tanner McEvoy couldn't pull in a high pass from Wilson in the end zone on the second drive.

Fortunately, the 49ers' defense held the Seahawks to two field goals in the first quarter, and could not mount a drive to begin the second.

Even in the rare instances when Russell Wilson had ample protection, drops, penalties and faulty red zone play handcuffed Seattle, which found itself in a white-knuckle affair at home with one of the NFL's more downtrodden organizations. He was the offenses' only bright spot, with quarterback Brian Hoyer doing Shanahan no favors at quarterback. The storyline in this game was the pass protection that Wilson was not receiving. The killer blow was a Wilson fumble inside his own 10-yard line that led to the Packers first score and an eventual 17-9 defeat. Seattle's offense needs to get much better. Jones intercepted Aaron Rodgers last week, only to have his touchdown return nullified due to a penalty.

Neither the 49ers nor Seahawks scored a touchdown in opening-week losses.

The Seahawks clearly like Rawls over Lacy as the lead back, and Carson had a few impressive runs against Green Bay last Sunday.

REID SUSTAINS KNEE INJURY -Fifth-year veteran Eric Reid left the game three times with apparent issues with his left knee.

What happened to Jimmy Graham?

The Seattle Seahawks (0-1) are coming from a 17-9 loss to the Green Bay Packers in Week 1. Tank Carradine and Arik Armstead also recorded sacks.

This game was so lacking in highlights that the NFL's Twitter account only posted two for you to enjoy. That's one of the reasons why this game has such a must-win feel to it in Week 2 as both teams have to start playing well immediately.

INJURIES: 49ers - Out: linebacker Reuben Foster (ankle); Questionable: safety Jimmie Ward (hamstring); Seahawks - Doubtful: linebacker Terence Garvin (shoulder); Questionable: cornerback Richard Sherman (hamstring). Armstrong was briefly benched for Brock Coyle in the first half after he blew a couple of assignments.
