Haitian Americans speak out against Trump's alleged 's**thole countries' remarks

Trump’s vulgar

Democratic U.S. Sen. Richard Durbin on Friday said President Donald Trump used "hate-filled, vile and racist" language when talking about immigrants from Haiti and Africa, and that media accounts of what Trump said have been accurate.

As an organizer and advocate that works with Black immigrant communities and the daughter of Black immigrants, let me be clear: President Trump's statement calling Haiti and African nations "shithole countries" is racist.

If a country asks for confirmation -- did the president of the USA say what he is reported to have said -- then USA diplomats "will report that back to Washington and we'll provide appropriate guidance should that occur", Goldstein said, declining to elaborate further.

U.S. President Donald Trump answers questions from reporters during a prison reform roundtable in the Roosevelt Room of the White House January 11, 2018 in Washington, DC. Two GOP senators present at the meeting later said in a joint statement that they "do not recall the president saying these comments specifically", after Sen.

African nations and El Salvador -also said to have been targeted in Trump's comments on immigration - have had plenty to say.

The White House did not originally deny Trump made the "shitholes" comment, but the president himself tweeted Friday morning that "this was not the language used".

It was already past midnight Friday when the news arrived in Norway: President Trump told members of Congress that the United States needed more immigrants from places like Norway and fewer immigrants from countries like Haiti. His fellow South Carolina GOP Senator, Tim Scott, has called the comments "incredibly disappointing". "Do we need more Haitians?'"

"He was very kind to the Haitians, he was very eloquent to them, and he was the first president to (have) ever visited Haitians, and he said he was going to be the champion of Haitians", Haitian-American Georges Sami Saati said.

Espaillat says Trump's alleged remarks are in line with his previous behavior.

"The language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used", Trump tweeted Friday. "We should have more people from Norway". The most "tough" thing at the scandalous meeting was the "outlandish proposal" made by the bipartisan group on DACA, he added. "This is particularly surprising as the United States of America remains a global example of how migration gave birth to a nation built on strong values of diversity and opportunity".

He said the bill was a step backwards because it would force the United States "to take large numbers of people from high crime countries which are doing badly".

The issue is that the American people deserve to have a solution to the immigration crisis, here in the U.S. we have a situation that future immigrants are determined by only 1 group of people, and that is current immigrants. "I can see we have an ignorant president".
