Korea unification call from secretive North

Brit 'spy kid' faced death or hard labour over vid of 'sanction-busting secret train' in North Korea – but minder missed

The North Korean state media broadcasted that all Koreans home and overseas should work towards unification without seeking the help of other countries and try to promote cooperation and active communication between the two nations in the current backdrop of rising pressure against its Missile and nuclear programs.

"Who can blame South Korean women who will be left out?" asked a hockey fan here.

Protesters in Seoul have also demonstrated against North Korea and its leader Kim Jong-un.

She characterized meetings with Chinese officials in Beijing as productive but also stressed that China's efforts were "critical" to maximizing pressure on Pyongyang.

Cho's comments came almost a week after a South Korean government official told local media on the condition of anonymity that signs have been growing since late previous year that North Korea might hold a military parade soon.

"We talked about this a lot during the high-level talks with the North on January 9". White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders came up with the official response, saying the Winter Olympics provided "an opportunity for the regime to see the value of ending its global isolation via denuclearization".

North and South Korea remain technically at war after their 1950-53 conflict ended in a truce rather than a peace treaty.

The North asserted that the two sides should "bring down the barrier of national division".

The show of unity comes after it was confirmed that the North and South will form Korea's first-ever unified team at next month's Winter Olympics.

For now, fledgling cross-border visits have continued, suggesting that North Korea isn't seriously considering withdrawing from the Olympics. "Who knows what might happen?"

"I'm assured that anything the United States administration does on this front is done in close consultation with us", Kang said, adding, "This is our fate that is at stake".

Despite the opposition, the Moon government hopes that an Olympic-inspired mood of detente would serve as a stepping stone to the resumption of diplomatic talks that could slow down North Korea's nuclear advancement.

There has been ongoing tensions in the Korean peninsula in recent months, as the isolated country has continued to carry out missile and nuclear tests, in defiance of worldwide pressure and United Nations resolutions.

The North has shown rapid progress toward its goal of developing a nuclear weapon that could reach the US mainland. Seoul officials said Wednesday that Pyongyang is scheduled to send its athletes to South Korea on Thursday to inspect the competition venues.
