Centurion: India captain Virat Kohli blazed a magnificent century, but South Africa hold the upper hand as they reached 90/2 in their second innings on a hard wicket after rain and then bad light curtailed Day Three of the second Test on Monday.

Starting from overnight 269/6, Faf du Plessis (63) and Keshav Maharaj (18) took their seventh wicket stand to 31 runs. AB de Villiers plays it down to third man and both are quick in between the wickets. South Africa 2nd Innings: 14.19 IST: Ashwin to Elgar, FOUR!

Following the end of the first Test, which the visitors lost, the Bollywood actress flew back to India for her personal commitments.

India, after struggling to find an early breakthrough, bounced back in style as Shami removed De Villiers, Elgar, De Kock to put Proteas on backfoot. Kohli was responsible for holding the Indian innings together even when most of the batsmen in the Indian order threw their wicket away, including and especially Hardik Pandya.

De Kock was eight minute stay at the crease was awful - the middle of his bat not meeting the ball once.

Shami didn't have to wait long for the next wicket, with Elgar mistiming a pull straight to KL Rahul at deep backward square leg.

First, he induced an edge off de Villiers in the 42nd over with the batsman surprised by extra bounce and was caught behind.

Cricket - India v South Africa - Second Test match - Centurion Stadium, Pretoria, South Africa - January 16, 2018.

India were also unhappy when they were taken off for bad light; fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah had beaten the bat twice in the over just before that.

Earlier, India captain Kohli, who hit a classy 153, played nearly a lone hand in scoring half his side's runs but India were bowled out for 307 as South Africa (335) took a crucial first innings lead of 28 runs.

Ishant bowled with pace and aggression, putting the Proteas batsmen under pressure on several occasions and was rewarded with a couple of wickets on day 4.

Having picked up where he left off on Monday, De Villiers looked in superb touch, but he could do nothing about a Shami delivery that got big on him.

A lead in excess of 250 would prove tough for India to chase down at SuperSport Park. Surprisingly, India did not take the second new ball after 80 overs.

The hosts were leading India by 118 runs in the second innings. But India missed chances, notably dropping Rabada twice off successive balls when South Africa would have slipped to 289-7. He played and missed numerous times, edged past slips for four, before reaching a hard-earned half-century with a delightful drive off Ishant Sharma.
