5 times we cried during This Is Us season 2, episode 15

Jack was an amazing father

Jack was an amazing father

They are as broken as you would imagine.

'The Car, ' runs on two timelines, when the kids are 10 and when they're 17 (the adult Big Three get the week off). Her and Jack's doctor shows up. In Jack's head it was one last memory to be made, a big family outing before they all went off to college over the summer.

This Is Us slowed down the pace Tuesday, making pit stops in family man Jack Pearson's life in the follow-up to Sunday's. He shares he doesn't want to be buried. Jack says he and his brother, Nicky, were inseparable as teens (Remember, Nicky died in Vietnam). You're just trying to get through it. Some may have not caught that after Jack's funeral, Rebecca is forced to drive over a bridge once again to get to the Bruce Springsteen concert. Randall just casually voicing the audience's frustrations here: "You just never talk about him, or anything when you were a kid". Jack taught Randall to drive in the Wagoneer and lectured him and Kevin about brotherhood when their argument nearly caused a wreck. Kevin and Randall start bashing each other-it's Kevin's fault, obviously-so Jack makes them get out and walk home. They are not going to get bad news. He went to war and he died and it's been hard to reminisce since.

Rebecca goes outside for some air. It looks at the wonderful things people can do for those they love, and it examines the terrible things people can do to those they love.

After all, as many as three of the five main characters struggle with addiction: Jack with alcohol, Kevin with drugs, and, if we take Kevin's view of things, Kate with food. How did this loss impact Kevin's future, just like his injury did?

The scene that infuriated fans however came during the reception, when Kevin notices Randall wearing Jack's watch. She is happy to see him and the wife. In another moment, Jack is instructing Randall behind the wheel, Kevin's taunting from the backseat lands them in some trouble when the driving goes awry. Randall pokes back by saying he wasn't there. It's interesting that we're only seeing little glimpses of the speeches, not the entire service - there's a fragmented quality to these scenes, as though we're seeing it through Rebecca's gaze and she's sort of drifting in and out because she's too numb to take it all in. While Dr. K doled out some great advice to Rebecca, and seemed to be the only one who could comfort her in her time of need, the fact that he too outlived Jack struck us as kind of sad. Kate tells Jack she's been writing her own music for fun.

Kate makes it known she no longer wants the dog that Jack saved from the fire. He saw the kids, just as they are, from the moment he saw Randall in the hospital. I really wish there was a some time. He even upped the ante by telling her she'd gone beyond something resembling lemonade with the lemons life gave her; what they'd made together was spectacular and so sweet.

After her chat with Dr. K, Rebecca grabs the kids and leaves the service. "I don't think that my tear ducts have any more tears", said Moore. There is no understanding.

Whenever Jack has his heart-to-hearts with Kate, you should have your tissues on standby. She also confesses she feels incredibly guilty that she was not there when Jack died. Everyone is thrilled with the new addition to the Pearson family. He told him that he wanted his family to be OK and he could see his family being OK in that vehicle, a sentiment Rebecca echoed after she and the kids scattered Jack's ashes. She thinks she is in trouble. She plans to ask around to see if anyone wants to take it in.

We've seen episodes focusing exclusively on the children and their lives in the past and present before, and this would be another great opportunity to revisit that episode formatting and tell the story of Jack's loss from each kid's perspective.

As they ride to the funeral, Kevin has trouble tying his tie. After getting an MRI, Jack takes her for a drive to his favorite tree while they wait for the results. They have to be teenagers, and occassionally help around the house. She tells Kate she can not blame herself.

He bolsters the young widow, who feels lost looking ahead without the man who seemed to have the confidence and ability to handle anything.

Together, they spread Jack's ashes around his tree.
