South Africa won by 72 runs at Cape Town

Proteas pretty in pink again

The Proteas quietened their critics with a thrilling five-wicket Duckworth-Lewis win in Johannesburg in the rain-affected fourth ODI.

India began to lose wickets at regular intervals once Dhawan was gone, but wicketkeeper MS Dhoni struck an unbeaten 42 to help the tourists finish on 289/7 off their 50 overs.

Earlier in the Pink ODI, India had won the toss and made a decision to have a bat. He had just been dropped many rows back by AB de Villiers.

India after losing Rohit Sharma early yet again was anchored by Kohli and Dhawan.

Virat Kohli then joined Shikar Dhawan and together piled on the pressure on the South African bowlers, hitting them to all parts of the ground.

Klaasen said that it was a huge personal achievement for him to take South Africa to victory after having scored just 6 runs on his ODI debut at Cape Town.

The left-handed Delhi batsman has an attacking game and likes to dominate the bowlers early on in his innings.

They took it gladly with Kohli perishing while attempting to break the shackles while Dhawan at the other end, hit a six and a four in the span of four balls to bring up his 13th ODI ton.

The duo scored just six runs in three overs after the powerplay before Dhawan crunched Chris Morris for a couple of pull shots.

Shikhar Dhawan became a prolific run scorer for his stateside for nearly five years and fine-tuned his skills with the willow in the domestic grind.

But then Shreyas Iyer dropped David Miller on 6 and shortly after in the same over the unsafe left-hander got another reprieve as he was bowled by Yuzvendra Chahal off a no-ball.

Despite Dhawan and Kohli providing a solid foundation, the Men in Blue could only manage 289 on the board as they lost momentum after a break for bad weather. Rabada (2-58) was particularly impressive at the death as his last five overs conceded only 28 runs.

Similarly for South Africa, the win means a lot. "We wanted to look at all the existing talent in the pool and then we wanted to decide who we wanted for the ultimate goal of the World Cup".

In reply, South Africa rode on an 118-run third-wicket stand between Mignon du Preez (90 not out) and Laura Wolvaardt (59) to chase down the target with seven wickets and 0.4 overs to spare. That was top work considering the Wanderers rarely entertains ODI chases of less than 300. David Miller swung across the line and had his middle stump knocked back. His fun ended abruptly the next over, however, when he holed out to fine leg off Hardik Pandya (1-37). Ironically, it was after he was bowled neck and crop by Yuzvendra Chahal, off a no-ball, that he unfurled his full and devastating power.

On the other hand, the South African unit will look play with their winning combination and take it all down to the last one-day.

Klaasen ended up making 43 off 27 balls, which included five boundaries and a six, while Phehlukwayo remained undefeated on 23 off five deliveries, which included a boundary and three sixes.
